Waste Management significantly reduced lobbying and campaign contributions after being inducted into the Corporate Hall of Shame in 1996 for manipulating public policy at the expense of the environment and people’s health.
In 1996 we inducted Waste Management into the organization’s Corporate Hall of Shame for manipulating public policy at the expense of the environment and people’s health. It had a long history of garnering environmental fines, investigations for bribing public officials, and evidence of improper accounting practices.
For years, we exposed and took action against the garbage-hauling giant. Under this pressure, Waste Management significantly reduced PAC and soft money contributions, the size of its federal lobbying force, and its federal contributions.
