When I take a hard look at the current state of our democracy, it’s easy to see why so many fall into despair.
From the Trump administration’s clear disregard for the lives of the people living in the U.S. to the systemic economic injustice and racism ingrained in our current institutions, it’s clear that we need a massive shift in how we understand and work toward creating genuine democracy.
What I believe, to my core, is that genuine democracy is possible, and each of us has a rewarding — even exhilarating — role in making democracy real. We can’t wait for someone else to save us. We can and must connect with one another, understand our common ground, and take daring action together to build our own power.
Donating monthly to Corporate Accountability International is a fantastic start.
Corporate Accountability International’s goal is to recruit 50 new monthly pledgers by September 30. Each new monthly pledge will be matched with an additional $100 — and when you join right now you’ll receive a free signed copy of my new book, “Daring Democracy.”
I’m a longtime fan of Corporate Accountability International — I mentioned them (when they were Infact) in my book “Diet for a Small Planet” way back in 1971! I’m proud to be a monthly donor, and I’m excited to promote their campaign to challenge corporate power — every month. I know the future of our democracy rests on all of us coming together to push back against the corporate power that has terribly distorted our systems. Will you stand alongside us and commit to making a monthly contribution?
As nationwide infrastructure crumbles, Trump’s agenda aims to reduce democratic control of water systems and turn them over to corporations — whose primary goal is to make a profit, not make sure everyone has access to clean, safe water. As climate change manifests in terrifying storms such as those we recently witnessed in the Caribbean, India, Bangladesh, Puerto Rico, and Texas, the Trump administration continues to slash environmental protections, and threaten the budgets of the EPA and FEMA — I could go on and on.
In my book, my coauthor Adam Eichen and I discuss the roots of Trump’s presidency, and the deep challenges we face — but our major focus is on solutions that every one of us can help bring to life. It’s easy to let the state of things get you down. But, we all have the choice — and the important opportunity — to work shoulder to shoulder for a better tomorrow.
The time is now — we must commit to making transformational change. Please join Corporate Accountability International as our newest pledger today.Remember, when you join before September 30, your donation will be matched with an additional $100 matching gift and you’ll get a signed copy of my hope-filled book on how we can all take part in making democracy real: “Daring Democracy.”
