STATEMENT: SCOTUS heard arguments on Big Oil’s appeal

Please see below for a statement from Sriram Madhusoodanan, our Associate Campaign Director.

“The facts and evidence are clear—decades ago Big Oil corporations like Exxon and Shell knew the climate change-causing impacts of burning fossil fuels. Instead of charting a different path, they launched sophisticated campaigns of deception, lobbying and climate denial that have contributed to untold suffering around the world. Finally being called to answer for its actions, Big Oil is yet again attempting to leverage its formidable resources to block climate liability lawsuits that are taking off across the country.

We stand with cities and states across the country in urging the Supreme Court to uphold the lower court decisions and let the Baltimore case, and others like it, proceed in state court. Justice delayed is justice denied. And it is clear that is exactly what Big Oil seeks to do in its continuing and unending appeal of lawsuits seeking to hold it liable for the impacts of its abuses.”
