STATEMENT: Ashka Naik, Research Director, on McDonalds’ shareholders’ meeting

In response to McDonalds’ shareholders’ meeting today, Research Director Ashka Naik said:

The movement demanding McDonald’s change its practices grows each year, and time and again the corporation responds with hot air and apathy. One thing is clear: The investors of McDonald’s need to hear the truth about its practices.

McDonald’s tells investors that workers are the “heart and soul” of the company. Meanwhile, it refuses to take responsibility for the public health crisis it fuels, and funds trade groups like the National Restaurant Association that lobbies for anti-worker policies. Investors should be concerned about the liabilities this doublespeak aims to obscure. It’s time McDonald’s did right by its workers and consumers, and got its toxic money out of politics and policy.”
