Below is a statement from climate organizer Michél Legendre on California’s lawsuit against Exxon, Shell, BP and other fossil fuel corporations.
“There’s no doubt the fossil fuel industry’s lies and greenwashing merit greater scrutiny. Given the scale of the industry’s damages to communities from those around Chevron’s refineries to those facing unceasing wildfires, this lawsuit should ensure the highest ambitions in service of the people and communities in California. Richmond and other frontline communities have set a precedent and called for the industry to be made to pay for its harms. In the interest of the many generations already deeply harmed and those to come, we urge AG Bonta to ensure the precedent for this state-level lawsuit.”
