Nomi got her start challenging corporate power as a high school student in Philadelphia, when the state slashed funding for her school district. Dozens of public schools closed. Class sizes grew. And for-profit charter schools, which claimed a chunk of the city’s already limited resources, sprouted up.
“I learned that the profit motive was at the heart of so many problems I was seeing around me,” she says. With a student-led union, Nomi organized walk outs, advocated for more district resources, and demanded an end to a state-appointed leadership commission.
Nomi’s work has always centered on what she believes is the most powerful force in the world: community. From coordinating outdoor adventure trips for youth to building people power with Jewish Voices for Peace, she thrives in collaborative spaces.
Her interest in fundraising began during an internship for Bread and Roses, an organization that distributes funding to grassroots groups in Philadelphia. “I realized that fundraising is a type of organizing, and an essential part of moving social justice work forward.” she says.
Joining the development team at Corporate Accountability was a natural next step. As major gifts organizer, Nomi works with philanthropic partners across the U.S. to build the people power and support needed to advance the organization’s campaigns.
Nomi graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in religious studies. In her free time, you can find her exploring a new section of the Appalachian Trail, studying Spanish, and playing with her two devious cats.
