Sanyu Awori

Sanyu Awori is an African feminist working globally to advance visions, policies, and practices on economic justice. She is currently the Building Feminist Economies Manager for the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) where she works with a plurality of movements and communities around the world to build knowledge, power and mobilizations to challenge dominant economic systems and advocate for feminist solutions. She brings over 15 years of experience supporting labor, feminist, and human rights movements advocating for corporate accountability, economic justice, and gender justice.

She is excited to serve on the Corporate Accountability board and shares, “Corporate power is deeply intertwined with racial, gendered and economic injustice: shaping whose labor is exploited, whose voices count, and whose lives are valued. I’ve seen firsthand how corporate accountability is a site of struggle for justice and I’m deeply committed to advancing this work.”

Sanyu’s writing has appeared in many publications including the Business and Human Rights Journal, Human Rights Law Review, Open Global Rights, and openDemocracy. She is currently a member of the Committee on Budget and Finance of the International Criminal Court and the Financial Committee of the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
