In 2003, we helped ensure the unanimous adoption of the global tobacco treaty, the first public health and corporate accountability treaty.
This potent tool allows the global community to reclaim public health from a deadly industry. Broad implementation of the global tobacco treaty could save up to 200 million lives by 2050.
That’s why we launched a whirlwind grassroots campaign with governments and allied organizations across the Global South and around the world to bolster worldwide support for the treaty. We helped swell the number of ratifying countries from approximately 40 to more than 180 today.
Our coalition work turned the global tobacco treaty into one of the most quickly and most broadly embraced U.N. treaties. Read more about our tobacco campaign.
