In late 2011, the Grand Canyon installed water-bottle refilling stations and was weeks away from implementing a groundbreaking policy to remove bottled water from park stores. Then Coca-Cola, a major donor to the National Park Foundation, complained. It got the plan tabled.
Corporate Accountability International teamed up with allied groups, and we organized thousands of people to speak out against Coke’s attempt to set environmental policy at our national parks.
It worked! In February 2012, the Grand Canyon National Park told Coca-Cola to take a hike and moved forward on the plan to stop the sale of bottled water at the park.
