Did you know that despite the abundance of water bodies and freshwater sources on the continent, one in three Africans lack access to clean and adequate water supply?
Every human being has a fundamental right to safe water. Unfortunately, there is an entire industry that exists just to exploit this basic need for their own profit. And when the human right to water isn’t fulfilled or protected, it’s people like you and me who pay the price.
We have been community organisers and activists for many years, and we have personally seen how corporate abuse affects our communities. And when we first heard of the threat to privatise the water system in our hometown of Lagos, Nigeria, we worked with our longtime partners at Corporate Accountability to immediately organise against this threat.
Since then, we’ve expanded the movement to include organizations from eight African countries now making up the Our Water Our Right Africa Coalition. Together, we’re confronting the threat of water privatisation and protecting the human right to water for millions of people across the continent. But we can’t do it without your support.
Multibillion-dollar corporations and their wealthy shareholders, mostly based in the Global North, have made riches from privatising community water systems across the globe. Now, they’ve set their sights on the African continent. And with the backing of international institutions like the World Bank, they are attempting to push water privatisation in our countries and communities — from Nigeria, to Cameroon, to Mozambique, and more.
That’s why we are asking you to give to our joint #GivingTuesday campaign before the deadline. Make your gift right now, and it will be quadrupled by a generous donor. Half of your generous gift will go directly to supporting the Our Water Our Right Africa Coalition and the other half will go to Corporate Accountability’s global water campaign.
For over a decade, we have worked closely and organised in solidarity with Corporate Accountability. Our joint campaigns to challenge corporate abuse have achieved tremendous wins. More specifically, our partnership on the water campaign has been crucial to advancing the movement for water justice worldwide — including stopping the threat of water privatisation across the African continent.
That’s why we’re excited to partner with Corporate Accountability this year for a joint #GivingTuesday campaign to raise the funds we need to keep our movement strong. Donate now and your gift will be matched by a generous donor who will quadruple each dollar raised.
This means that your gift of $100 automatically becomes $400 — but only if you give today.
As a Corporate Accountability member, we know you care deeply about challenging corporate abuse. Your support means so much to us and the Our Water Our Right Africa Coalition, and it gives us hope that thousands of people around the world — just like you — are moving in solidarity with us.
Make a gift this #GivingTuesday to advance the movement for water justice. Together, we can demand an end to the exploitation of this essential service and protect the human right to water.
