When global water giant Veolia tried to sneak a contract into the city of St. Louis, Missouri in order to get its hands on the city’s water system, Corporate Accountability International leapt into action to make sure democracy prevailed.
In coordination with the local Dump Veolia Coalition, we mobilized a groundswell of grassroots pressure, directly challenged public officials and secured extensive media coverage exposing the corporation’s backdoor dealings, which were meant to make inroads into and profit from St. Louis’s water supply. The result? Veolia withdrew its contract bid, leaving St. Louis’ water system where it belongs: in public hands.
